Dez had spent the last hour (or at least what had felt like an hour) flopping around on her bed, skimming through books, flitting through her closet and drumming her nails against her desk. It was lonely not having a roommate anymore and she had free time on her hands.
She would've gone down to the kitchen for a snack, but she was trying to watch her weight. Her last Skype-date with her parents had reminded her that she had to watch what she was eating since type-II diabetes ran in the family. She would've gone down for some extra training, but she'd already showered and gotten into her jammies.
And so, after groaning and staring at the ceiling for a bit, an idea came to mind. She grabbed a deck of cards, tucked her keys into the convenient pocket of her jammy-pants and skipped on over to Kat's room. And knocked.
...
.........
No response. Dez pursed her lips together and looked down the hall. It wasn't that it was late or anything, so if anything SOMEONE would come back sooner or later, right? At least, that's what she thought as she sat on the floor, spread her legs out in front of her and started shuffling the deck to play a round of solitaire.

Kat sat hunched over her desk in her room, noise-cancelling headphones, her face closer to the screen than she really realized as she worked on some small details on a digital drawing she was working on. She nodded her head a little to her music and mouthed the words.
With her focus so narrowly targeted, she wasn't controlling her powers. They didn't run rampant or leave her overly sensitive like they used to when she wasn't actively controlling them, she could let her guard down a lot these days, especially alone in her room. What it did mean is that she would get flashes of emotions not her own from people in the hall if they got close enough. She'd come to recognize the wavelengths associated with other people's emotions, they felt slightly different than feelings that came from within herself, so it wasn't so bad.
At some point she became vaguely aware of a presence nearby. She sat up after a moment and furrowed her brow. There was no specific emotion, but it was the same wavelength the whole time. Was someone waiting outside of her room? She realized her music was loud enough she might not hear someone knock. She focused on the door and past it to feel something specific. She smiled, recognizing her friend. She saved her work, paused her music and made her way to open the door.
"I'm sorry, Dez! How long have you been waiting out here?" [/blockquote]

Dez peered up at Kat with slightly unfocused eyes. Looking up at Kat with the hallway lights shining right into her eyes after staring at her playing cards intently made it hard to see. Dez blinked, then rubbed her eyes as she put down the stack of cards in her other hand.
"Oh, I dunno. I got through a round of solitaire and started on my second. Not that it takes very long, y'know." Dez blinked up at Kat again and smiled. "Don't worry about it. It's one thing to have someone on the internet, but I wanted a real live person for company." She patted the carpet beside her and curled her legs up against her chest. "I guess I got so used to my roommate that not having her around has made my room feel lonely, even with my stuffed animals."
Propping her chin on top of her knee she tilted her head toward Kat. "Did I take you away from anything?"

Kat gave her friend and amused and apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, D. And not really, I was drawing some stuff and my headphones were on." She shook her head when Dez patted the ground and instead offered her hand to help the girl up and invite her into the room. She had more space in her room than most people, since she wasn't allowed a roomate. True, the electronic monitoring equipment around her bed took up some space, but she had a whole half of the room that would normally be taken up by another bed and desk and dresser furnished instead with a couch, a table, a beanbag chair and a small TV with an XBox hooked up to it. The "normal" half of her room had her bed, Dr. McCoy's machines, her computer desk and dresser and it was all sort of haphazardly decorated with colourful things that somehow managed to coordinate with each other. Except the machines, she'd never figured out how to make them tie into everything without full on decorating her room to look like the Labs below the school, so she just let them take up space. Dez perked up at the mention of Kat drawing something. "Ooo! Can I see?" she asked as Kat gave her a hand up. Dez graciously took the proffered hand, her thoughts happy as she used her free hand to push herself off the wall so Kat wouldn't have to bear too much weight. Dez quickly picked up her cards from the floor and followed Kat into her bedroom.
She'd seen Kat bedroom on multiple occasions, sure, but the machinery there was always very... prominent. Not that Kat could help it. She had sure made up for its bulk by decorating the rest of her room. Dez slipped her hand into her pocket and pulled out her keys. She balanced both the keys and the card deck on the arm rest of the chair before skipping over to the computer to peer at the screen.

Kat chuckled. Dez always had so much energy. It was all that Adorable Asian energy. The spare energy adorable people and asians seemed to have to keep themselves being full of bouncy cuteness. Dez had it twice over.
"It's just some character design sketches for a pathfinder game Ray wants to run. I'm thinking Half-Elven, half Varisian Sorceress. Draconic Bloodline. I just can't seem to pick what colour dragon..." She closed the door and walked over to the computer, reaching over to quickly hit the "ctrl" and "s" keys to quick save her work. She streatched her arms out and arched her back hard. She'd been sitting hunched for a while now. She started doing what she frequently forgot were ballet stretches; side bends, back bends, twists, bending her leg and pulling her foot against her waist, practicing her turnout by holding her foot and stretching her leg out straight.
"So what's up?" she asked as she stretched. [/blockquote]

Dez nodded as she listened to Kat talk about her new character design, eyeing the character up and down and taking in all its little details. Although she didn't know much about the pathfinder game outside of what Kat had told her about it, she'd read enough fantasy fiction to get the general gist of what kind of character she was making. Well, all except what kind of person a Varisian was. Not that she was going to ask. She had other thoughts on her mind.
Turning and leaning gently against the desk, she watched as Kat stretched, half tempted to mimic her moves herself, before perking up at Kat's question. Drawing in a deep breath and letting out an exaggerated sigh, Dez said, "I'm ronery." She grinned as she mimicked Japanese pronunciation of the word before tilted her head to the side and cracking her neck. "I wanted someone to play with and nobody cool's online."
Dez tilted her head down and looked up at Kat with puppy-dog eyes. "Will you play with me, Kitty-Kat?" She smiled, her lips curling so she almost looked cat-like herself.
