Angel had returned from class, slightly exhausted. Debating in ethics was never fun and she relished being able to relax. Pushing the door closed she dropped her bag and collapsed onto the bed. Her phone rang once and she groaned.
Something better be dead or on fire...
Hand groping blindly, she found her prize and answered - irritation coloring her voice.
"What?"
She shot up to a sitting position, confusion and anger warring on her face. This was not someone she'd ever expect to hear from.
"How did you get this number?"
Her shoulders tensed and she hunched forward, like it would help her hear better. Her laugh was less amused and more shocked.
"Bullshit , Clay. My mother never liked you in the first place, so really - what the hell do you want?"
Clenching her hand, she stood and began to pace.
"Clay, this is the last time I am going to tell you this politely. I am not interested in you or whatever you're trying to sell me. You had two daughters - good for you. I don't care. Go and do whatever it is that makes you happy and leave me out of it- "
Wiping her hand over her face she stopped moving. Almost everything in her had stopped - her breathing went shallow, and she stared at the spot on the wall she was facing.
"What did you just call her?"
She shuddered slightly taking a deep breath. Closing her eyes she began to shake her head.
"Clayton, you better hope when I come home that I never see you."
Angel began to pace again, steps harder than before. Suddenly she halted.
"Listen here you sanctimonious fuck! You are a shitty person and considering that is a personality flaw and not a mistake, I don't have to forgive you for it."
She sat on the bed hard, scowling into a spot on the floor.
"Fuck you. You were dumb enough to get a girl pregnant twice in high school. You are so dumb that you're still trying to chase me when I don't want shit to do with you. You're a grown ass man, right? Deal!"
Suddenly, she began laughing again.
"That's it? Seriously?"
Her tone lightened, but still somehow hovered at the edge of violence.
" Yo, fuck. You. Clayton. Yeah, I am a 'mutie'. No one lied to you and I certainly didn't make this up to keep you away from me."
Her voice suddenly dropped to a dangerous purr.
"See, Clay, I can bring out every nasty, horrible thing you ever thought. I'll burn away every hope of salvation you ever had. And knowing you, you'll fuckin' love me more for it."
She smiled nastily holding her chuckle in her throat. She then made an exaggerated kiss noise into the phone.
"You don't mean that. Or else you wouldn't be talking to me right now, would you?"
There was a hesitation and suddenly she exhaled hard. Tension was leaving her, if slowly and after one last highly irritated and confused look she tossed her phone onto her desk.
Flopping back hard onto the bed, she sighed.
Well..that was strange..
