Drama Class

[Kole "Shade" Hannigan]

Shade was waiting for drama to start sitting next to rose. he had to finish reading the play they were assigned on the way to class because his date with Brittany ran longer then expected last night.
he leaned over to Rose and asked "Do you know what we are doing today?"

Kat had her copy of the play at the side of her desk. her sketchbook open to a page full od sketchy circles with cross-hairs that would eventually be faces. She tilted her head to one side and chewed at her lower lip before slowly adding eyes to one face. She glanced up as Kole asked about class. She shrugged.

"Dunno. I'm hoping we're getting scene assignments, though." She shifted in her seat and noticed the side of her hand that rested on the paper was covered in graphite. She scrunched her nose and rubbed it on her jeans. That didn't help much so she licked her other thumb and rubbed the smudge clean. She wiped her hand on her jeans again and wend back to her character sketches. She'd read the play on her own plenty of times. Much Ado About Nothing was one of her favourites. She'd always dreamed of playing Beatrice. She hoped they'd be at least doing round-table readings if not scenes. Shakespeare was always better examined through acting it and she absolutely adored the Bard. She'd never had trouble understanding the language and she was the sort to read his work for fun.

"Do you think we'll get to do sonnets again soon? I'd love another go at My Mistress' Eyes..." She muttered the beginning of the sonnet under her breath as she sketched some thick, wavy hair onto one of the heads on the page. She'd worked that particular sonnet before, years ago. But she'd grown so much as an actress since then, she wondered what she could do with it now.

[Kurt "Nightcrawler" Wagner]

*BAMF* Kurt entered the room just as the bell rang as he always did and greeted the students
"Good morning mine students. How is every one?" he said in his German accent
then he put his pappers down and looked at he class.
"I hope you all read ze book I assigned because to day ve vill begin preforming different scenes. Now zer are an even number of you so please split up into groups of two and chose a scene."
with that he turned to the chauk board and began to list the different scenes in the play so as to prepare to take note of who would be doing what scene.

Kole was about to respond to kat when Kurt entered. After responding with the rest of the class to his question, and hearing the assignment for the day he turned back to Rose and said
"looks like you got your wish. you wanna partner up?"
Kole like working with kat in this class because took it seriously, unlike a lot of the people in the class who took it for an "easy A". with ment he would'nt have to fight with her for some rehearsal time

Kat chewed her lip idly after Mr. Wagner made his usual dramatic entrance and began to address the class. She listened to his greeting and smiled, something about Nightcrawler always made her smile, he was just such a good-natured person to be around. When he announced that they would be doing scenes, her whole face lit up, her light violet eyes almost seemed to glow for a moment with excitement. She grinned widely and muttered, "score."

""Looks like you got your wish. You wanna partner up?"

"Hmm," Kat thought about the answer. She didn't mind working with Kole, but it was not an easy play to pick scenes of two from. Besides that there was the matter of characterizations and genders. "Well, the only really good scenes between a male and female character just the two of them are with Beatrice and Benedick...Think you can pretend to find me infuriatingly smart and sexy for, like, ten minutes?" She gave a bit of a scoff-like noise and started leafing through her copy of the play. "Hm...the bit in Act 1, Scene 1 is pretty fun if we want more bickering. The sexual tension there is still pretty subtext...Kind of...On the opposite end of the spectrum Act 5, Scene 2 has one of the most weirdly adorable dialogue. And there's the confession of loving each other in Act 4, Scene 1...But I'm not gonna ask you to be fawning all over me..." She was almost talking to herself at this point. "Then again I could always just play a man to make the scene choices more plentiful, but then I've always wanted to play Beatrice and most of the scenes involving her not with Benedick are her and an entire company of other players..." She was starting to ramble as she flipped back and forth, leafing through pages and stopping occasionally to silently read a line or two or take note of seeing Beatrice's name.

Kole thought about the different options then said
"Well the bickering one would be really easy for us, I'm not sure about Act 5 scene 3, act 4 sounds like we could show alot of emotion it it with could be fun"
he sat there for a moment then said
"Scene 1 or 4 would be my choice its up to you."

Kat made a face. It was such a hard choice. "Mrrreehh. I guess it depends...? On if we want to mostly have fun or if we want to challenge our acting ability?" She shifted in her seat. "'Cause damn scene 1 is fun," she paused, amused at the silly unintentional rhyme. "And-ha-I don't know if I can look you in the eye and say that I love nothing in the world so much as you." She chuckled and shook her head. "Without laughing. Hm....but it would be a challenge, for sure. But...funny scene...Bah, so hard to choose." She frowned, she'd always had trouble making up her mind about things. Dr. McCoy told her it had to do with her neurology but she hated that excuse. She just wanted to be able to be decisive. She could manage in battle and on missions, when it came to life or death situations most of the time, but for pretty much everything else it was like her mother used to say; you could put three things in front of Kat, two of which she hated, and she still wouldn't be able to choose. That wasn't literally true, but for all intents and purposes it might have been.

"What do you think?"

Shade sat for a minute waiting for Rose to decide, when it became apparent she wouldn't or rather couldn't he decide to speak up
"scene 1 its is."

then he leaned back in his chair and began flipping though his book to find the fist scene.

Kat nodded, relieved that he had expressed a preference. The fun one it was. She'd stretch her acting chops with someone else. She flipped back to the beginning of the play and read over it again.
"Do you want to take it from Benedick's line, then? 'If Signior Leonato be her father,' to give my first line context? And we'll read through to 'I know you of old,' then...? It's a short scene that way, only twelve lines in all, six for each of us, but the rest of the scene involves other players. I'm sure Mr. Wagner understands that." She was sure that Nightcrawler expected the scenes to be short when he decided to do this in pairs. It was probably deliberate since so much of this particular play was about those being in the company of many rather than in confidence, not even many monologues compared to some Shakespearean plays. Now, a Midsummer Night's Dream, that was chock full of fun soliloquies and one-on-one scenes. Loves Labours Lost was fun for threesomes...she paused at the thought and thanked god she hadn't said it out loud. The combination of unintended puns, irony and accidental double entendres would have had half the class snickering at her either in the intellectual amusement or the childlike mentality that came with the subject of sex. She felt a little like a ten year old for the urge to snicker at her own mind, but she didn't mind. She and her friends were constantly expressing twelve year old mentalities towards double entendres and "that's what she said"s.
