Gender;; Female
Height;; 165cm – 5’6”
Weight;; 60kg – 132lbs

Other Distinguishing Features;;
Personality;; Dez is gregarious, curious, kind, friendly and sometimes a bit naïve. She easily gives her trust to people and as a result is extremely hurt when someone betrays her trust. She believes strongly in fidelity and being loyal to family and friends. When judging her by a first impression, Dez gives off the image of being polite and courteous, but also being subdued and shy. However, once she has accustomed herself with a person, she shows more of her true self. She is strict with herself and stern with her friends, but only because she cares for them. Dez can also be fiercely protective of her friends.
Dez thoroughly enjoys relaxing at home and chatting with friends on the internet and though she does not like the idea of clubbing or partying, she will eventually (after some whining about how she doesn’t want to go out with friends on what she calls ‘adventures’.
Dez is extremely self-conscious and still has terrible self-esteem due to her previous bouts with severe acne. She also has self-esteem issues because of pressure from her mother to worry about how society views her. As a result, she doesn’t show 100% of herself and sometimes shares only one aspect of her personality with certain people while others see another aspect entirely.
Power(s);;
Mimicry: Dez can mimic any voice and manner of speech after hearing the speaker either in person or via recording. The longer the voice sample, the more convincing she sounds.
Voice Possession: Dez can steal a person’s voice from them, making them speak the words she speaks. Said person is unable to break the possession until Dez severs the connection or is incapacitated.
Illusion: Dez can make people see what she wishes them to see. This is done by using magical energy tapped from the universe. It requires concentration and will. Sometimes illusions can sprout up sporadically due to intense emotions.
Goals;;
- To be able to control her abilities
- To become more comfortable with herself instead of trying to be what her mother wants her to be
- To be able to use her abilities toward helping mutants and humans co-exist peacefully.
Fears;;
- That her mother will not accept who she truly is (once she finds herself)
- That her abilities will make her ‘evil’ or ‘bad’
- That she’ll lose her friends and family because of her abilities and what she’s capable of
- Commitment to a relationship because she fears getting hurt
Strengths;;
- Linguistics: Dez is already fluent in Japanese and because of her abilities is naturally able to pronounce other languages as well as a native. She would like to learn Korean, German and Spanish (only because Spanish is so prominent as a second language in the US.)
- Arts & Crafts: Dez likes to make things with her hands. She can make origami as well as crochet scarves and is learning to make more complicated things.
- Trilling Fingers: Dez briefly played the violin at a young age, then turned to focus on playing the piano. Although she stopped taking private lessons upon attending the Institute, she independently has sought out sheet music via the internet and continues to play independently. She learns new songs better by listening to the piece before trying to play it.
- Tactile Memory: Dez remembers faster when she touches or does things. This can be seen in her music playing as she quickly commits new pieces to memory by remembering how her fingers felt when she reached for the keys and where her hands were positioned while playing.
- Show Me: As a visual learner as well as a kinesthetic learner, Dez understands better upon being shown an image or doing things. She easily visualizes things in her mind and can quickly draw representations on paper with a pencil. She also is interested in manga and as a result, draws in a manga style.
Weaknesses;;
- Dez is easily distracted and her abilities sometimes require intense concentration. Some of her abilities can be interrupted by simply drawing her attention away.
- Dez is quick to recede from an argument or discussion in favor of agreeing with the other party. She has a hard (if not impossible) time standing up for herself. She does not like arguments.
- Sometimes because of her Tactile Memory she has a hard time accepting when something can be done a different way from the way she learned initially.
- She can sometimes be extremely lazy when it comes to doing things, especially when she has little to no interest in said thing.
- Dez can be a little OCD sometimes. Her room is set up in a specific way to her liking and she has some habits regarding the order in which she does things.
Family;;
- (Paternal) Grandmother: Jane (McLoughlin) Lang
- (Maternal) Grandfather: Hiroki Nagai
- (Maternal) Grandmother: Minami (Shinagawa) Nagai
- Father: Christopher Gregory Lang III
- Mother: Airi Chino (Nagai) Lang
- (Older) Brother: Christopher Gregory Lang IV
History;; (Long history is long.)
Desiree was born in Hawaii to her loving parents and elder brother. Of her entire family, she is the only mutant. Life was simple during elementary school, but for the first year of middle school she was sent to a different school, some private school her brother had gone to. It was supposed to help her get a good education, but Dez never studied hard enough.
That summer after her one year at private school, Dez and her family moved to California. Her brother, who is much older than her, had gone ahead of them to attend college there. Dez was sad to be leaving her friends and writes them letters, hoping to be pen pals, only to hear back from one of them: the rest of her friends didn’t want to be friends with her anymore. The girls she’d thought were her friends… really weren’t. The realization caused her power to manifest that long summer before she began to attend school in California. From that point onward, she was able to perfectly mimic a person’s voice and manner of speech so long as she’d heard them once before. This sometimes happened unintentionally.
Feeling lonely and betrayed, she found new friends on the internet through forums. She felt more comfortable on the internet, as she didn’t have to worry about risking mimicking someone and scaring them away. Nobody ‘speaks’ on the internet. It’s all written text. There was one forum, one geared toward mutants, which she frequented. There, she met a boy two years older than her… and they started dating. He was her first and only internet boyfriend. He was supportive of her ability, but having commitment issues, especially after the influence of her ‘friends’ about staying together, she broke off her relationship with said boyfriend.
Dez moved within California two more times, each time during the summer between school years so Dez wouldn’t have to switch schools in the middle of the year, until her family settled in Los Angeles. She had two relationships with real-life boys, but they never lasted. Neither went beyond holding hands and talking.
During her first year of high school she made kooky friends who enjoyed her ability and encouraged her to mimic them. They knew that she would never use it against them, though one mutual friend, jealous of Dez’s ability to mimic (and perhaps a bit of a mutant-hater), spread rumors that she’d used her ability to spread lies about her friends. Cast aside again by her most of the people in the group, she clung to her internet friends and the remaining real life friends she had left.
She managed to remain friends with both her ex and the few friends who’d believed her when she said she hadn’t done what she’d been accused of. Of course, sometime during her high school years the truth came out about the girl who’d started the rumors, but by that time Dez couldn’t see her ex-friends as friends anymore. She never bothered to contact them and they never bothered to contact her.
During high school, she made a new internet friend. Though half the country separated the two they were inseparable on the internet. Dez got encouragement from her new friend in a way that she hadn’t had the confidence to ask her real life friends for, lest she scare them off like so many others with her abilities.
Sadly, it was also during high school that her abilities began to manifest in ways that she couldn’t hide from her parents. At first, her mimicry just seemed like a nifty parlor trick she could pull out of her hat at times, but when she became flustered and her friends and family began to see things that weren’t really there. When said things dissipated and her parents noticed, they were shocked. Her father was more than accepting, as was her brother. However, her mother could not believe that her daughter would be… a mutant.
Feeling rejected by her mother for being what she was, even though her father and brother did their best to support her, she came to realize that she couldn’t bear the thought of seeing the look in her mother’s eyes. Upon telling her close internet friend about it, she learned about the Xavier Institute.
Upon confessing an interest to enter the Institute to her family, her mother was initially against it until Dez’s father convinced her that it was the best thing for their daughter.
