It was about 4pm on a saturday shade was alone in the room mussing working on a poem he was writing while noting down ideas for sculptures.
He sat on his bed in the corner of the room opposite the window. Due to the fact that bright light irritated his eyes he and geo had agreed to rearrange the furniture so as to allow shade a little more comfort. Blocking one window with the dresser and putting his bed in what little darkness that allowed made it so he was able to sleep with out being woken up by the blinding sunrise.
He was getting frustrated by the poem he was writing. It was for Beasts poetry class the assignment was to write a poem about "what being a mutant means to us"
where do I start He thought how I feel about my mutation? I feel thrilled that I have the power to help people. I feel nervous that I will do something to worsen the standing of mutant kind in the eyes of the humans. I hope that Xavior is right and that peace is possible between mutants and humans but I know that history shows us that open war is more likely as long as the humans fear and hate us the way they do now. I yearn to master my self and my powers but I fear my own potential. How do I put all that in to words that have any kind of rhyme of flow to them?
disgusted at the blank page before him he threw the notebook to the foot of his bed and leaned back.
"Screw it!" he said to him self then he sighed and reached for his sun glasses. as he put them one he sank into the shadow realm reappearing a moment later in the gym "Maybe a little workout will help me clear my head enough to think of something good."
He looked around to see if there was anyone worth sparring with, but it looked like anyone who could prove a challenge wasn't around so he hit that bags for a little while practiced some forms and called it a day he showered up got dressed and walked out of the gym
"what does being a mutant mean to me?"
He shook his head as his stomach growled "I guess right now it means its time to eat."
He walked to the cafeteria and grabbed some spaghetti with meat sauce and a large iced tea. He finished he meal stoping from time to time to say "hi" to people he new as they walked by. He thew out his tray and thought
"what does it mean to me"
Frustrated he punch the wall then took a deep breath and decided to go watch some TV
He was flipping thru the channels in the rec-room when he passed the news and saw a video of some fight out side of an old building the camera zoomed in a showed it was McClain's Orphanarium. it was one of the few places that would openly house and feed mutants. Well apparently the Purifiers had taken issue with there methods and decided to put an end to them for good. too bad for them the X-men chat wind of there plans and Cyclops, Wolverine and Ice man had been sent to protect the orphans. they were currently standing in line between the horde of purifiers and the young mutants. the news team was just close enough to hear the two group yelling at one another
"Stand aside genetic filth!" said one one the purifiers "this place WILL be CLEANSED!!"
"IF YOU WANT THESE KIDS"responded Wolverine *shink* "YOU'LL HAVE TO GO THROUGH ME!!"
"SO LONG AS WE STILL DRAW BREATH YOU WILL NOT LAY ONE FINGER ONE THESE KIDS!" Added Cyclops
"THEN YOU WILL DIE HERE WITH THEM!" Retorted a Purifier
"IF THAT IS THE PRICE WE MUST PAY TO STAND UP FOR WHATS RIGHT THEN SO BE IT!!" stated Ice Man
"That what it means!" Shade said and teleported back to his room to write a ballad on the bravery and valor required to exist as a mutant in today world.
